Customer Spotlight: GigaPan Systems
GigaPan GigaPan makes unique camera mounts that allow users to take gigapixel panoramic pictures using most point and shoot digital cameras. The company sells a package which includes both physical hardware (the camera mount) and a fixed number of licenses for use of their Stitching Software, the combination of which enable users to take incredibly high-quality and high-resolution pictures. The sales and registration process, as well as the purchase of additional licenses for use of their Stitching Software, are all accomplished through the NetSuite Web Store.

Explore Consulting led the implementation of the NetSuite shopping cart and checkout for GigaPan in addition to developing an automated License Key Distribution solution to relieve GigaPan’s staff from the time consuming requirements of managing the process manually. The result of the License Key Distribution solution built by Explore Consulting is that the entire process of providing license keys to customers has been automated while still providing GigaPan a detailed audit trail for tracking the assignment of License Keys to serial numbers.

NetSuite Web Store – Google Maps & Online Store Locators

Background
Wholesale distributor of several brands provides a NetSuite website with direct order capabilities, but also a store locator to quickly direct visitors to both online stores and retail locations selling their brands.

Issue:
The distributor uses a NetSuite Web Store for their online store, but also uses it as a place to profile new products, press releases, and general product and company information. With so much of their business hinging on the success of the retailers they sell to, the company recognizes the opportunity to help consumers find them. A store locator seamlessly integrated into their existing NetSuite Web Store would be the perfect solution.

Solution:
Explore Consulting built a two part solution from the ground up. The first part is a Google Maps locator within the NetSuite website. The second part is an Online Store Locator, which helps customers find online retailers and allows them to sort based upon the many brands offered by the distributor. (Read complete case study).

WCF Proxy for NetSuite – A Free .NET Utility for Connecting to NetSuite Web Services using WCF

If you’re a developer using recent Microsoft tools such as .NET 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008, you probably know that the preferred way of connecting to a web service is WCF (Windows Communication Foundation) rather than the previous generation ASMX web service client. To use NetSuite web services from ANY .NET client, you create a “client proxy” which is generated .NET code to enable communications to an internet-based web service. This client proxy is the code then used by a developer to interact with NetSuite’s web services API using strongly typed .NET objects.

Explore Consulting has developed a utility to easily allow the current version of NetSuite to be used by .NET consumers. It generates a WCF client appropriate for use in Visual Studio 2008 projects, and we’d like to share this utility with the .NET community for FREE!

Explore SuiteScripting
Do you need more automation within your unique workflow or business processes? NetSuite's SuiteScript technology is the most flexible, powerful, and extensible way to customize your NetSuite system. It can be triggered on user events or scheduled, can create or modify data, communicate with external data sources, or string together a multi-step workflow process. Enables creation of front-end user interfaces on the fly using standard HTML or UI objects with a NetSuite look and feel.

Some example scripts:
  • Visual Map of Actual Inventory Location in the Warehouse
  • Automated AR Collection Escalation
  • Estimate/Order Discount Approval
  • Order-based Drip Marketing
  • Subscription Management
  • Software Key License Generation
  • Automated Billing
Each month we add new scripts to our website. Download FREE examples from our SuiteScript Library or contact us to discuss your specific business requirements.

NetSuite Tips
Each month we will provide our NetSuite customers with tips on how to use the product more efficiently and how to perform complex or unintuitive tasks. We hope that you find these tips helpful.
Summary Criteria in Saved Searches

Many customers look for ways to target marketing messages at their highest performing customers. As an example, let’s say a user is putting together a marketing campaign to target Retail customers who spent more than $5,000 with your business in the last quarter. While Category and Date Range are standard, the $5,000 threshold requires a slightly different approach. In this case, a user will need to use a combination of standard criteria and summary criteria in order to retrieve an appropriate list of results.

The first part (customers who are categorized as Retail) is simple enough, because the Category and Transaction Date elements are available in the main Criteria drop-down. For this example, we should also limit the transaction types to only Cash Sales and Invoices so that we leave out Estimates, Sales Orders, and other non-posting transactions:

The sales total, however, is more complex. The user’s first inclination might be to look to the “Transaction Fields…” selection where they found Transaction Type and Date, and add the criteria for Amount. Unfortunately, this would only return customers with individual transactions in excess of $5,000. Instead, the user needs to summarize the transactions for a customer, and then apply the Amount criteria.

This can be accomplished using the Summary subtab, located to the right of the Standard subtab above. Summary criteria allow you to group together a set of results and then apply your filter to the summarized values. With Summary criteria, you have access to the same grouping mechanisms as are available for Result columns: Minimum, Maximum, Count, Sum, & Average.

To find only those customers whose total sales exceed a threshold, we will want to select “Sum” as the summary type, as it will automatically add up all of the transaction amounts for the transaction types specified. Next, we will need to apply our summary to a field. Here, we are looking to Sum the transaction amount. In the Field drop-down, select “Transaction Fields…” to bring up a list of fields related to transactions for this customer, and, in the pop-up that appears, select “Amount,” and then specify “greater than” and “5000.”

When the three elements are brought together (summary type, transaction field, and amount), the Summary criteria will appear similarly to regular search criteria:

When the user runs this search, it will return a list containing only those Retail customers whose total sales dollars for the specified period exceed the $5,000 minimum threshold:

This saved search can now be used as the basis for a Dynamic group for email distribution lists, marketing campaigns, and other special targeted activities.
