What is RSS?

With so many web pages out there, keeping up with them can be a drag.

Wouldn’t it be easier if you could have the news delivered directly to you instead of having go to each individual site to search for it? You can! RSS will do just that.

RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication”, it basically allows you to say what content you want, and when you want it delivered. It definitely takes the hassle out of attempting to keep up with all of your favorite websites.

RSS just takes the latest information and gives it directly to you.


How can I use RSS feeds?

The first step in being able to get RSS feeds is by obtaining a “news reader” There are many different versions out there and you will have to find one that suits you. Once you have installed the program all you have to do is subscribe to the news feed that you want. There are several ways to do this:

  • Clicking on the button to subscribe to the feed
  • Dragging the URL of the RSS feed to your news reader
  • Cutting and Pasting the URL into the news reader
  • Some browsers have news readers already in them such as Firefox, Opera and Safari


How do I get a News Reader?

How can I add RSS News Feeds into Netsuite?

Explore can help you develop your own custom RSS feeds and incorporate them into your NetSuite dashboard. This could be used as another integration mechanism to include third party software integration, external KPI's or custom news feeds. For example, Explore created our own current press release RSS Feed. Follow these steps to setup:

  1. Login to NetSuite and navigat to your Home tab
  2. Turn on RSS portlets. Navigate to Home --> Settings --> Customize this page.
  3. Choose the Standard Content tab and select the RSS Portlet option and Save.
  4. Find the RSS portlet on your Dashboard and select the Setup link.
  5. Set Source = Custom
  6. Set RSS Feed URL = http://www.exploreconsulting.com/rss/ecnews.xml
  7. Set Number of Links = 10
  8. Check Show Details box and Save.
