How Do We Determine ERP Implementation Cost:

Let’s face it – we all want to know exactly what we’re going to spend to land safe and sound with a critically important ERP implementation. History shows that can be tricky business. However, through thousands of repetitions over our 15+ years, we’ve learned that one size does not fit all and how we should responsibly approach partnering with our customers for a long-term relationship where we don’t abandon you at go-live, and provide a true extension to your organization’s ongoing evolution. Following is an overview of what we consider.

During the Discovery and Requirement phase of your implementation, Explore Consulting begins the project with a meeting in order to understand your business. This includes current systems, project scope, key functionality required, preferred IT environment, budget and more crucially future growth plans.

The most intensive aspect of the project is with Configuration and User Acceptance Testing. This portion of your project is generally half to two-thirds of the overall cost. A few simple factors we use when estimating are the number and type of NetSuite modules, the number of system users, and your ability to define requirements during the sales process. Be prepared to invest the time to learn NetSuite early on. Instead of waiting to get our clients familiar with NetSuite, Explore Consulting works to educate our clients as we interactively work with you inside your account beginning in the early stages of your implementation.

Customization, Integration, and Data Migration are the next variables in factoring the budget of the project. The requirements and cost here vary greatly from one project to the next depending on complexity of your processes. NetSuite is designed to be highly configurable with little effort. When customization gaps are identified, we typically present three options: manual workaround (lowest cost or free), fully customized (most expensive), and semi-customized or middle ground. We aim to find the right balance of cost, timeline, and customization to fit your needs.

The final consideration for the cost for your implementation is training. Explore’s education-oriented approach is aimed at getting your stakeholders as knowledgeable and familiar with NetSuite as possible so they can help with configuration and solution design, train other users, and advocate for the system within your organization. It’s important to remember that training is an ongoing process, not a one-time activity.
