Working with Custom Segments in SuiteGL

A new feature in the 2015.2 release is the Custom Segments feature that allows you to create custom classification fields similar to class, department, and location. You will be able to create an unlimited number of custom segments, define possible values for each segment, add the segments to specific record types, and even configure them to appear on the GL Impact page. In addition, standard NetSuite reports are able to be customized to use segments as either filters and/or columns, for example:

When a segment is used as a column, it can also be grouped with other columns. The new Custom Segments feature will include the following configuration options:

1. Configure Segment Values to be Hierarchical
2. Configure a Segment to Default Statically or Dynamically
3. Filter a Segment’s Values Based on Other Segments
4. Filter a Segment’s Values Based on Class, Department, Location, and Subsidiary
5. Create Segments as Multi-Select Fields
6. Display Segments Selectively

Before you can create custom segments, you must enable the feature. Navigate to Setup > Company > Enable Features. On the SuiteCloud sub-tab, select the Custom Segments box and click Save. By default, only Administrators and users with the Full Access role have permission to create and edit custom segments, but you can grant any custom role permissions to create/edit custom segments. Authorized users can create custom segments at Customization > Lists, Records, & Fields > Custom Segments > New.
